Richard A. Choate, AIA
Principal


Richard Choate is an Oklahoman by birth, but a New Orleanian at heart. He graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1986 with a Bachelor of Environmental Design and then in 1988 with a Bachelor of Architecture.

Following graduation, Richard moved to Dallas, Texas where he started his architectural career and eventually became the lead designer on numerous educational and multi-family related projects. In 1991 Richard partnered with Matt Norton to pursue historic adaptive reuse and single-family home design opportunities. Then in 1994, he moved to New Orleans to work extensively designing hospitality, multi-family, educational and healthcare related facilities, managing projects in New Orleans, Southeast Louisiana, and all around the United States.

Richard became founding member of SCNZ Architects in 2006. He is a passionate designer and experienced project manager who has a strong commitment to design, which he has translated into an ability to deliver unique and responsive design solutions for challenging project types from complex multi-phase historic renovations to large corporate headquarters. Richard has 21 years of architectural experience & has had several projects published based on project design.

In the evenings and on weekends, Richard practices the fine art of Kid Wrestling with the Choate children, where he holds the all time league record of 192 wins, with only 12 losses.
