Durr Heavy Construction Office Building
Harahan, LA
The old Durr office building had been expanded four times, sat directly on the ground and was subject to rising water from street flooding. The building did not project the image of the largest demolition and heavy construction firm in the city, nor did it represent the culture of the firm.
A raised, straightforward and muscular building was the solution. The values of Durr are reflected in the new headquarters. A fitness center and day care facility promote better living and family life for employees. A chapel reflects the importance of faith to the owner. Meeting and training spaces sit at the building core with flexible walls to accommodate multiple meeting sizes simultaneously. Offices are arrayed around the perimeter to maximize daylighting, and a clerestory window system surrounds the main lobby and chapel introducing natural light to the center of the building.
