Global Green Holy Cross Community Center
New Orleans, LA
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Global Green spearheaded a plan to re-inhabit a block in the storm-damaged Holy Cross neighborhood of New Orleans. A new Community Center was designated as part of this larger mixed use master plan.
SCNZ was selected to design this multipurpose center, which will house a community room, Global Green offices, a visitor's center, retail space and will feature an outdoor plaza for events. Designed to meet the goal of LEED Silver, the center will serve as an educational tool for sustainability, as well as a sustainable location for first responders in times of emergency. The center is oriented to receive maximum benefit from the sun and features a large solar array & clerestory windows for diffuse daylighting. The design utilizes readily renewable and high recycled content materials and allows for collection of rainwater in a large cistern for use in irrigation.
