Jackson Barracks Joint Forces Annex
New Orleans, LA
The Louisiana National Guard needed to expand their Joint Forces Headquarters by adding wings, flanking either side of the existing building. The new wings had to fit within the “Campus Design Guidelines,” meet blast-proof requirements and Department of Defense Anti-Terrorism Guidelines, and remain fully operational during emergency conditions, including flooding and hurricane conditions.
We were able to provide a design reminiscent of the Greek Revival architecture of the historic Barracks, with gracious porticos and arcades. However, the shell underneath is composed of heavily reinforced concrete walls and blast-proof windows and doors able to withstand an adjacent bomb detonation. Situated inside are mission critical facilities with extensive emergency power capabilities, including the main IT and Data Center and other and support structures which allow the Guard to continue operations even if trapped for extended periods.
