NOPD Mounted Division Horse Stables
New Orleans, LA
The New Orleans Police Department has the third largest mounted division of all police departments in the U.S., and with the added horses used during Mardi Gras, only New York’s is larger. The old, ten-building complex in City Park that housed the stables and offices for the Division was severely dilapidated and lacking many basic modern amenities required for proper horse care. Then, in 2005, the complex was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
SCNZ worked closely with the NOPD and FEMA to help secure the funding to provide the NOPD with a new state of the art facility. We renovated an 11,000 sf existing stables facility and constructed a new 9,500 sf, 27 stall stable building and a new 5,120 sf office building. The complex includes multiple horse washes, 2 vet farrier spaces, locker rooms, a large training/conference room, tack locker rooms, and a commercial laundry room. Site improvements include new arena fencing and a hot walk.
