Royal St. Charles Hotel
New Orleans, LA
This conversion of the 1970s era Southern Savings & Loan Building into the Royal St. Charles Hotel began with removal of all interior finishes, street level exterior walls and building systems. The concept for the lobby and common space design stemmed from the owner’s desire to have a streamlined look, but updated and tailored to the needs of the popular tourist streetcar stop. The interior keeps a playfulness and organic geometry in the bar and canopy, while recalling the steamship interiors of the Art Moderne movement. The serpentine shapes of the lounge elements exude a spirited energy as guests enter the building.
